Becoming a doctor requires acquisition of a sound knowledge about people, their diseases and how to treat them. However, to achieve the state of a successful and respectable medical professional, development of one’s personality is equally important. Possession of soft skills for a healer such as empathy, humility, leadership and communication skills is now emphasized more than ever. Nonetheless, medical curricula worldwide are known to be loaded with information, and with much focus on successful delivery of knowledge, development of these soft skills in a medical undergraduate is sometimes not adequately addressed.
Being aware of this void, PeMSAA decided that it needs to play a role in inculcating these skills among the budding doctors. The new PeMSAA lecture series on Soft Skills Development is the outcome of this decision. These lectures will sensitize medical students to attributes that they are expected to consciously develop in themselves in order to become worthy successors to Hippocrates..
